Initial OABI Beach Fest Paddlerama Program Announced

Ever wanted to try out a SUP or kayak?  Perhaps you want to learn more and strengthen your paddle stroke, or learn from some of the areas best competitive paddlers on how to increase your paddle fitness?  Paddlerama is the paddle exhibition that is open to the general public and encourages everyone no matter their paddle experience to get out on the water and paddle!

No board or boat?  No problem!  Free SUP’s and kayaks provided for Paddlerama participants courtesy of Great Lakes Surf and Detroit River Sports.

OABI BEACH FEST – 8/9/14 @ Belle Isle State Park


Green Veil Outdoor is pleased to present, in partnership with Grand Circus Media, Detroit Surf Co, Detroit River Sports, and Ashore, OABI BEACH FEST, taking place on the shores of Belle Isle Beach, Detroit on Saturday, August 9, 2014.

OABI is the first-ever paddle race and festival of its kind to take place in Detroit, featuring a 7-mile race around the island as well as live music, craft beer, food trucks, local vendors and much more. Event attendees will have the opportunity to check out and try an array of new stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and crew rowing equipment & gear throughout the festival grounds.

OABI attendees can participate in Paddlerama – a series of onsite classes, demonstrations, contests and sprint competitions along the shores of Belle Isle Beach. Early arrival and registration is essential.

Advance tickets and registration information for OABI can be found by visiting as well as The cost for Paddlerama and general event admission is $15 in advance and $25 at the door. The cost for the OABI race, Paddlerama and general event admission is $35. The OABI race is for moderate to experienced paddlers, while Paddlerama is open to all paddler experience levels.
